Lychee (Litchi chinensis) is a tropical fruit tree known for its sweet and fragrant fruit, which has a bumpy red skin and translucent, juicy flesh. Native to Southern China, lychee is widely grown in tropical and subtropical regions around the world.

Characteristics of Lychee Plants

  1. Size and Growth Habit: Lychee trees can grow to heights of 30-40 feet (9-12 meters) with a broad, spreading canopy. They have a dense, rounded shape and a thick trunk.

  2. Leaves: The leaves are evergreen, glossy, and pinnate with 4-8 leaflets per leaf. They are typically 6-12 inches (15-30 cm) long.

  3. Flowers: Lychee trees produce small, greenish or yellowish flowers in dense clusters. The flowers are not particularly showy but are important for fruit production. They bloom in late winter to early spring.
