Characteristics of Dragon Fruit Plants

  1. Size and Growth Habit:

    • Dragon fruit plants are climbing cacti with a sprawling, vining habit.
    • The stems (or branches) are green, triangular, and can grow up to 20 feet (6 meters) long.
    • They have aerial roots that help them climb and attach to structures for support.
  2. Leaves:

    • Dragon fruit plants do not have typical leaves; instead, they have fleshy stems that perform photosynthesis.
  3. Flowers:

    • The flowers are large, fragrant, and bloom only at night. They are typically white or yellow and can be up to 12 inches (30 cm) long.
    • Dragon fruit flowers are sometimes called "moonflowers" or "Queen of the Night" because of their nocturnal blooming.
